There are a number of ways one can increase the page rank of its website. The most popular ones are listed below:-
Write-ups of upto 500 words should be written on topics similar to ones website having the link to the website at the end. These articles should be posted onto web directories and other article based popular sites.

The websites link should be highlighted on the most popular sites on the web and should have a unique content helping people link to your own website. The website links should be well advertised through various mediums like newsletters, brochures, press releases and blogs and should be communicated to everyone you come across.

One must approach the high quality and popular websites to link their pages to your website. Basic and easy XML formats can be used to popularize the website and its contents on the web. Check on the reliability of the website you wish to link with your page.

The website should be translated to other foreign languages to provide popularity. One must search Google for its own site to improve its page rank. Do not use devious tactics to improve PR otherwise the site loses its credibility on google. Regular and the earliest updates should be provided to increase the results on search engines.

Internet marketing is the need of the hour today and it is very simple to do it too. To ensure that the website performs well on the internet one needs to ensure that they have relevant back links. The key to getting a ranking in the search engines depends on having high quality back links from websites which are relevant. Getting good and relevant back links will keep the site on the top of the search engines.

One can buy back links from sites which are relevant. It is important for website promotion to have back links from sites which have relevant content. The higher the number of back links and more is the diversity it always proves to be better for the website.

It is always better for a website to have a higher page rank. It is always beneficial to have inbound links as this shows the richness and relevance of the site and it content. It is always recommended to buy relevant back links as it is a necessity of internet marketing in the present times. While buying back links one should be sure that they do not buy many in one go and rather spread them over a period of time.

Creating backlinks give search engines an easy way to find out if people find your web content informative and valuable. Search engines penalize link builders but authority backlinks is the best way to add quality to your content.

You can find relevant backlinks by scanning all the search engines for the number one page of every search results. A lot of links created can be just spam, but with patience it is possible to find the relevant website. The easiest method would be to attach backlinks to popular sites as these would ensure only quality data.

Any good website will only sell links to other relevant sites or they could even lose on their popularity. Many webmasters out there believe in creating relevant authority links with some quality data to promote their websites. These can be done by writing comments on other websites and even blogs, making posts in relevant forms which could link your website to theirs, writing posts for newsgroups, by using article marketing and even by building more websites with good quality content.

Some authority websites that allow good quality dofollow links are Stanford Law School, Wikio and MSDN Blogs. It’s advised to use these websites with care while creating backlinks as your quality content reflects on the popularity of these websites as well.

At the TED Conference in 1998 Jeffrey Brewer introduced a pay-per-click search engine proof-of-concept. Within the next 2 years both Google and Yahoo had obtained the system and now almost every search engine also uses this template. There are 2 different types of PPC, or pay-per-click formats. One format is Flat-rate PPC, and the other is Bid-based PPC.

In a flat rate PPC, the advertiser and publisher mutually agree on the amount of money to be paid for each click. This negotiable rate is determined by the CPC, “Cost Per Click”. The CPC is a calculation based on different areas and aspects of the website such as, the content on the page. Content that has a large amount of valuable visitors will have an overall higher rate. The downfall of the PPC form of advertisement is that once you stop paying for the service, your benefits are over.

As opposed to Pay-Per-Click forms of advertisement, there is also Search Engine Optimization. Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is technique used to elevate a website through the ranks in SERPs, or Search Engine Results Pages. Because Google runs on a “Natural” or “Organic” algorithm that determines their results, specific features and guidelines must be applied in order to gain an increasing number of visitors to your site.

With SEO you achieve increasingly better placement, and more visitors, almost immediately. The traffic comes continually, and the effects are long term and long lasting. Without SEO, your website may not be ranking high due to lack of keywords, or it may be too difficult for your target customers to find you and your product. Even after you are finished with SEO servicing, the work is already done and the benefits continue for a long time.

One of the most commonly misunderstood terms being used today is, Black hat SEO. The phrase Black hat comes from Hollywood. It was the general way of identifying the villain in old western movies, due to their cliché, black hat. There are many different ways to achieve Search Engine Optimization, but Black hat SEOs are considered hackers throughout the internet.

Besides “The Bad Guy” or “Villain”, another name for this form of SEO is called “Spamdexing”. Spamdexing can include a variety of unapproved tactical attempt used, by hackers, to redirect search engine results to their desired location. These tactics include, keyword stuffing, hidden texts and links, and link farming, and Blog Comment Spam. Such activities are meant to produce the best possible search engine results using inappropriate methods, but in all actuality, produce the exact opposite results. Google and other search engines like it penalize sites for these activities, decreasing your ranks in the requested search results.

In contrast to the Black Hat form of search engine optimization, the true way to amplify your website is through White Hat SEO. White Hat is a term that comes from the “Good Guy” or hero in old, western movies. This form of search engine optimization is well accepted well into search engines. White Hat SEO is often the makeup a “Search Engine Friendly” site, and unlike Black Hats, abides by the Terms of Service regulations particular to that search engine. The name White Hat also refers to, what is called, an “Ethical Hacker” or “Penetration Tester”. These types of White Hats have the initial focus of securing and protecting IT systems.

The answer depends on what we want to invest in time, energy, competitive analysis, and of course money. It is not after all matter of “if” so much as “when”, as long as we understand what we are up against.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) requires a certain degree of faith, since the world of SEO is fraught with unknowns. When will a search engine index my pages? How often will updates to my website be viewed as incremental value-added? Is my content equal to the challenge; my meta data superior to my competitor’s? Are incoming links as relevant to my keywords in the eyes of Goggle as I had hoped?

Regardless of the unknowns (and the unknowable), there is amble evidence available that a number of quality SEO-targeted and search engine acceptable procedures (site maps and submittals, proper meta content, care in creation of content, keyword and link relevancy to name a few) will force a website to rise in both ranking and search positions over time. The speed of the rise and the level of the increase are still a matter of some forces outside of our control (unless of course we work at Google!), and for this reason we need to temper all of our work with some wait-and-see, hope-and-pray, and simple optimism.

The EngineReady study -> http://engineready.com/company/trafficstudy.html , shows that Conversion rates are higher with PPC comparing to organic and sales/income. The increment is below 2.4 ratio, example for best PPC scenario:
Price of product $10.
100 users will go to the online store through organic and 10 of them will purchase = $100 in sales.
100 users will go to the online store through PPC and 24 of them will purchase = $240 in sales.
Conclusion = a view can be up to 2.4 more valuable to PPC landing pages.

PPC average CTR(click through rate) is 15% – it varies in different markets but it has never topped 20%,
Organic average CTR is 98%.6 – it varies in different markets but it is never below 93.2%, example for PPC best scenario:
1000 users are searching for a phrase 932 are clicking on the organic listing.
1000 users are searching for a phrase 200 are clicking on the PPC listing.
Conclusion = an organic listing will receive 4.66 more traffic than an equal PPC listing.

Combination of examples:
932 users will go to the online store through organic and 93 of them will purchase = $930 in sales.
200 users will go to the online store through PPC and 48 of them will purchase = $480 in sales.
Conclusion = an organic listing is 1.93 more valuable than an equal PPC listing.

**IMPORTANT**
Facts to keep in mind:
• PPC is a competitive market that people are paying to be there, unlike organic results the most of the people are not paying to be there and most of them don’t even try to market their SEO, it is a basic logic fact the a person who is investing money in renting those PPC listings will invest much more effort and funds in the design of his landing pages than millions of small online stores who are not even trying to market their site – usually because of lack of funds. For example:
“sony headphones” has 8 PPC listings and 720,000 organic listings. do you think all the landing pages in the 720,000 organic listings are as good as the 8 PPC?

• An organic listing is like an online real estate property, if you are #1 for sony headphone you can sell you site with those listings for probably a lot of money, you can put ads/adsense on there to make passive income, or you can even hire a manager to run the store for you if the cost/benefit is in the right ratio. In our case it’s like the different between paying mortgage or paying rent, even if you pay for years to PPC – this property/listing is never yours and once you stop paying your listing will stop displaying.

Thought I introduce myself by writing something productive – from the basic to the more advanced stuff.
The SEO/SEM process is divided into two main parts, On-Site SEO & and Off-Site SEO.
On-Site is also divided into two main parts:
1 – The extremely well known technique of using targeted keywords often in part of the page like META Tags, Content, Link URLs, ALT text, Anchor Text, etc..
2 – Internal linking structure – simply to program the website to enhance the power of important pages (Home page, Main category pages, etc…) and to reduce the power of unimportant pages (Privacy Policy, Contact Us, etc…). Using internal linking and JavaScript attributes (NoFollow tags, etc…)
*Important; meaning–pages that are important to rank in the SERP (Search Engine Result Page). Of course “contact us” is an important page – it is just not important that these kinds of pages will rank high in the SERP.
There are many other on page factors that may improve the ranking in the SERP like: sitemaps, robots.txt, etc… but the two mentioned above are the main factors.

Off-Site is most definitely the most important factor in ranking high in the SERP. Content and On-Page factor is helpful (I have my own sites that rank high for VERY competitive terms with NO links). But… If I could only chose one method then Off-Site SEO is probably the way to go. From my extensive experience & my wide-range statistical analysis I can say that the ratio of the On-site/Off-site factors are:
Google – 9.7% On-Site / 90.3% Off-Site
Yahoo – 17.1% On-Site / 82.9% Off-Site
MSN – 26.5% On-Site / 74.5% Off-Site

The 3 factors of Off-Line SEO:
1) Link Popularity (Applies only to Yahoo & MSN) – Simply; Quantity of links – of course there are various factors that change the quality of the links but quantity is the main one.
2) Link relevancy – “How optimized is the site that is linking to you?” meaning the more the site that’s linking to you is On-Site optimized to your keywords (Title & other META, content, Anchor text of your link, etc…) the better the link is – this is an IMPORTANT factor.
3)	The one and only: Google’s “PageRank” – Applies only to Google! :
PageRank is a reflection of a calculated score that is determined by the quantity and quality of the sites that are linking to you, and here is how it goes:

Every site has a score from 0 (Brand new site) to 136,957,543 (Google.com).
Those numbers are separated into 11 groups:
PR0 = from score 0 to score 6
PR1 = from score 6 to score 30
PR2 = from score 30 to score 164
PR3 = from score 166 to score 900
PR4 = from score 915 to score 4,948
PR5 = from score 5,033 to score 27,213
PR6 = from score 27,681 to score 149,670
PR7 = from score 152,244 to score 823,186
PR8 = from score 837,339 to score 4,527,522
PR9 = from score 4,605,367 to score 24,901,372
PR10= from score 25,329,516 to score 136,957,543

How does “PageRank” increase?
Let’s take for example the median value of a PageRank group and let’s assume the Linking page has 50 links on it. And also, let’s assume we have the luxury of many PR5 sites for “back linking”.

•	To make a PageRank 0 site (with no links at all) reach PageRank 4 – We need 3.339 Links coming from PR5 pages.
•	To make a PageRank 0 site (with no links at all) reach PageRank 5 – We need 18 Links coming from PR5 pages.
•	To make a PageRank 0 site (with no links at all) reach PageRank 6 – We need 101 Links coming from PR5 pages.

Same algorithm applies to all PageRanks (example: I need 3.339 links from PR 3 to be PR2).

The # of links is also a big factor. For example: if my page has 25 links instead of 50 on it, then the value will be twice as strong. Instead of needing 18 links from PR5 sites to be a PR 5 site – when the linking pages have 50 links on them. I will only need 9 links from PR5 to be a PR5 if the sites have only 25 links on the linking pages.

PAGERANK IS NOT RELATED TO CONTENT – A SITE CAN NOT INCREASE ITS PAGE RANK BY ADDING GOOD CONTENT OR BY ON-SITE OPTIMIZING.

Exceptions:
Website age – Websites tend to gain PageRank by only existing on the internet for a long period of time. It is common to see sites that are out there with no links for more then 10-15 years have page rank of 2-3. This exception can only get you up to PR3!

Topic-Sensitive PageRank – there is a theory that the PageRank is passed only if the site is category relevant (example: an online computer store and a scuba dive shop website – both related to the category “Shopping”) – the statistical analysis shows that this exception applies only 72% of the times

Anti-Spam mechanism – a site can be very optimized, have tons of content and have many links and rank low in the SERP – why?
1) The search engines do not believe in perfection in On-Site optimizing, to rank for “Free IPod” I would use a title tag of “Free IPod – The Best IPod” making the keyword density less than 100% – it will rank more for the term “Free IPod”. A site with the title “Free IPod” and 200 out of 250 words in the page are “free iPod” will be penalized.
2) Duplicate content – If a site looks like it was created in an automated way and was not written manually like if it has content from different websites or 56,000 with the same title – will be penalized.
3) Cheap back links, like: back links that are coming from not important pages, back links that have duplicate anchor text, 1000s of back links from the same IP, etc… those back links will penalize the website that they are pointing to.
