You’re looking for a consultant to advise you about Page Rank and increasing your Google rankings – Yes, we all know it’s hard but here are some tips about how to chose your page rank consultant – or if you are a page rank consultant how to chose your production vendor:

1. PageRank
They must have PageRank! We see so many so called “SEO consultants” , “PageRank consultants” , “SEO companies” with a small and funny green dot on their toolbar showing PR 1 or PR2 and some even Unranked/PR0.
Not only that you do not want to listen a consultant that doesn’t practice what he preaches a low PageRank may also be an indicator of scam, I see many companies with a PR of 1 or 2 that after I research about them I see that they are a fake company! There is a reason why Google doesn’t rank them for competitive terms -> Don’t Trust Me – Trust Google!
Of course the best case scenario is to go with a worldwide famous company like WSI or a publicly traded company, but even if you decide to go on a lower budget make sure you are dealing with an authority figure in the market and not a guy with a laptop million miles away.

2. Organic Results
A true SEO consultant / Page Rank Consultant will be found in the organic results – not the PPC, of course I understand why people are spending money on PPC even if they are amazing with organic results but you always want to make sure that they are not ONLY on the right hand side, but also on the organic listing. Heck they are SEO consultants if they can’t get themselves rankings don’t get your hopes up when you hire their services about your own sites. As I said -> “Trust Google” (organic).

3. Duplicate Content – Blackhat
One of the worst things you can do in the SERP race is stealing content or scripts from another site, STEALING IS BADDDDDD! I’ve seen some site this week of SEO companies that literally copied the entire Word tracker script and placed it in a frame! Directly from the Word tracker site and of course Google cached it –it doesn’t get any more duplicate than that. Do not hire Search Engine Criminals.

4. Google Backlinks
we all know that Yahoo shows us all the links we have even the most crappy ones, but a site that is out there for a long period of time, a site that you can trust has more then 2-3 Backlinks with Google.

5. SEO Structure
Browse the site and look on the internal URLs, a URL link “URL.com/SEO/Consulting-Services.aspx” or “URL.com/Adsense/100-dollars-a-day/” is very search engine friendly, unlike “URL.com/index.php?!?=page-==…” which is just a bunch of junk in the URL – That will decrease relevancy. Usually most SEO companies and consultants will have a good structure since this is the absolute basics.

6. Funky Code
Look is the code for things that don’t belong there, like “Content Goes Here” that they did not even remove from a simple plug-and-play template, etc…

7. Rankings for their name
See how well they rank for their name, search their name +”SEO” (e.g. “Non Profit Page Rank SEO”) + “Consultant” + “Page Rank”, etc… Always aim for high organic rankings.

8. Search Engine Friendly
Look how search engine friendly the META tags on their site, look in the source for “meta name=”description” and “meta name=”keywords – see how optimize is it -> if they even have those fundamental basic tags ;)
Also, at the title tag see if it is just “name”/”name + home” or is it optimized with relevant keywords as should be as well as the site’s name.

9. Cached Pages
Type this phrase in Google “Site:www.URL.com” make sure they have at least 50 pages cached with Google – don’t fall for a site that took 2 minutes to create.

10. Visual Observation
Just Look, see the cached page of their site, see if all their main themes are the same with both internet explorer and Firefox, use your mind to create a visual judgment.
